Coastal Virginia Fire Leadership Academy

Lead with Purpose. Grounded in History. Built for the Future.

Step into the next generation of fire service leadership. Developed by the Newport News Fire Department, this academy equips fire service professionals with the strategic skills needed to lead tomorrow’s departments.

Forging Exceptional Leaders

We are committed to developing the future of the fire service by cultivating resilient, adaptive, and visionary leaders. The Coastal Virginia Fire Leadership Academy provides cutting-edge command training, professional networking, and strategic mentorship. Our overarching goal is to empower fire personnel with the tools they need to elevate operational readiness, build stronger teams, and make our communities safer for everyone.

Created to Elevate the Standard of Command

While standard budgets cover the operational essentials of a fire department, true excellence requires a deep investment in human capital. The Newport News Fire Department established this academy to address a critical need: comprehensive, high-level leadership development.

By bridging the gap between tactical firefighting and strategic organizational command, we ensure our personnel are prepared to lead in complex, high-stress environments.

Supported by the Friends of the NNFD, we channel community and corporate sponsorships into a transformative educational experience. This partnership model ensures our firefighters get the world-class training they deserve, while our sponsors get unparalleled visibility among regional decision-makers.
